There are many reasons why our nation is obese: convenience, type of food consumed, inactivity, but the main reason is lack of education. For a person to eat properly, they have to be taught how and unfortunately this is not being done.
Ask an adult: what is a proper portion size: how many calories should you consume in a day? Would they know the answer? If they don't, then who is teaching their kids?
Cooking is needed in our schools. It's part math, science, reading, history, social and more important a skill needed for parenthood.
When teaching children, questions and topics should never be overwhelming. Approach it with simplicity. Keep it simple, relatable and always include the key ingredient - FUN!

Hold up a head of broccoli in front of a group of kids and ask, "What do you see?" Shockingly most of them won't know. This is just one of the major problems we face today. Our kids are not eating real food anymore. Their diets are made up of nothing but engineered and processed foods that have disastrous health problems linked to the long-term consumption of them.
We live in a world where we eat for quick gratification and exercise for vanity, when we should be doing both to promote a healthy life. After many of my sessions I ask the kids, "How old do you think I am?" I normally get 18, maybe 21 and with just having turned 31, their answers are gratifying. Asking them, "Why don't I look my age?" I quickly answer, "Because I eat healthy and exercise."
It’s long past time for us to live as examples and teach future generations about the benefits of real food, how to be healthy and how to stay healthy.
